Who is Worcester Bosch?

Worcester Bosch is a British heating manufacturer established in 1962 in Worcester. In the early days, they focused primarily on providing high-quality oil-fired central heating systems before developing their own combi boiler in 1971.

Today, they design and manufacture combi boilers, regular boilers and system boilers with a focus on efficacy, sustainability, and usability.

They employ a network of over 300 service engineers, over 2,000 employees and they serve tens of thousands of customers throughout the UK every year.

They boast the Royal seal of approval from Her Majesty The Queen as their products heat the Sandringham Estate.

Theirs is also the company behind the Robert Bosch Foundation which has spent over £757 million to date on improving social initiatives.

Find out more about them in our dedicated Worcester Bosch review.

Who is Baxi?

Baxi are part of the BDR Thermea group who are one of the largest manufacturers and distributors of domestic and commercial water and space heating systems.

The company was founded in 1866 in Warwick and it currently has four sites in the UK as well as many training centres for their engineers.

They specialise in manufacturing market-leading boilers, renewable energy solutions such as solar thermal hot water systems and ground source heat pumps, and much more.

They currently employ nearly 6,500 workers in the UK and have an annual turnover of $1.2 billion.

Find out more about them in our dedicated Baxi review.

What types of boilers do Worcester Bosch and Baxi manufacture?

Both Worcester Bosch and Baxi manufacture a wide range of combi, regular and system boilers with a number of different models with a range of power outputs suitable for properties of varying sizes.

They both have a range of boilers to suit specific budgets and they are committed to using and improving environmentally sustainable technologies which are affordable and long-lasting.

Combi boilers

Combi boilers are the most popular type of boiler in the UK and they work by instantly heating water sourced directly from the mains meaning you never run out of hot water.

Combi boilers use an internal gas burner and heat exchanger to keep a steady flow of hot water for your hot taps and radiators.

Not having to wait for water is the main reason for its annual high sales volume but the only drawback is that water pressure drops if too many people want hot water at the same time.

Combi boilers are cost effective and energy efficient so your annual heating bill will be considerably lower especially if you previously had an older traditional boiler.

They are compact, wall-hung units so they can be fitted in a small space out of the way.

They’re also the only type of popular boiler which do not require additional water storage tanks.

Regular boilers

Regular boilers, often referred to as traditional boilers, require more space, more pipe work, and they cost more to install and run.

They work by piping cold water from a storage tank in your attic into the boiler before it is heated and stored for your use.

They provide excellent water pressure however they do require you to wait until the water heats up so can be slightly inconvenient.

They are generally floor standing units and require much more space than combi boilers and system boilers.

System boilers

System boilers are floor standing units which heat water internally before pumping it to the required radiators or hot water taps on demand.

Much like traditional boilers, once the hot water is gone you need to wait for it to heat up again however they provide strong and consistent water pressure regardless of how many people in your home want to use the hot water taps.

They can be used effectively in larger properties which have high hot water demands and you don’t need to install extra pipework as you would with a traditional boiler.

Non-gas powered boilers

Baxi only produce gas powered boilers however their sister company Heatrae Sadia do have a range of electric boilers if this is an option you wish to consider.

Worcester Bosch also focuses primarily on the gas boiler market but they do have a small range of oil-based boilers for those not on the main gas grid.

The average cost of a non-gas powered boiler is £2,309 which is considerably more than gas boilers.

The average HomeSage score for this category is 81.38% and there are 18 models available from Worcester Bosch.

The main difference between gas and oil boilers is that oil boilers require a storage tank to fuel your heating system unlike gas which is connected to the mains supply.

Oil boilers are useful if your property is not connected to the gas mains.

They burn fuel more cleanly than gas which is beneficial for our environment as they release less carbon dioxide.

However, they are pricey to install and the cost of oil can change substantially depending on the market price and other factors.

You also need to make sure you don’t run out of fuel, although many providers will look after your top ups for you and book you in automatically to fill up the tank.

Repairs and warranties – how do both companies compare?

Baxi offer a ‘no quibble’ 10-year warranty on all of their boiler models for extra peace of mind.

You must register your boiler within 30 days of installation and installation must have been performed by a Gas Safe engineer.

Your engineer must complete a Benchmark Commissioning Checklist for the warranty to be valid as well as being serviced every 12 months

Worcester Bosch have varying warranties depending on the model of boiler you choose from.

Warranties start from 2-years as standard though you do have the option to extend this to 12-years on certain models if you choose a Worcester Bosch accredited installer alongside a Greenstar system filter

As with Baxi, you must follow the stipulations regarding annual servicing and registration for your warranty to be valid
